It is an integral academic component of a learner\u2019s programme\u2014not merely internship, workplace observation or time spent in industry.<\/p>\n<p>Through POL, a learner is expected to transfer academic knowledge, technical competence, creative ability and professional behaviour into authentic workplace practice. What matters is not only attendance, but demonstrated and documented competence.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"explainer-reading__section\">\n<h3>A structured professional journey<\/h3>\n<p>For a standard three-year programme, POL ordinarily takes place in Academic Year 3, Semester III, for a minimum of 12 weeks. Programmes may prescribe longer periods where professional requirements and curriculum design require it.<\/p>\n<p>The journey includes readiness preparation, a professional CV and portfolio, placement approval, a learning agreement, industry and academic supervision, a daily logbook, regular assessment, a professional evidence portfolio and a final presentation or defence.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"explainer-reading__section\">\n<h3>What learners demonstrate<\/h3>\n<p>POL assesses technical competence, creative problem solving, professional practice, digital and technological capability, workplace competence, ethics, client and user understanding, and reflective professional development.<\/p>\n<p>These areas make professional practice visible. Learners are asked to explain what they did, the role they played, the evidence behind their work, the decisions they made and what they learned from the experience.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"explainer-reading__section\">\n<h3>Professional competence counts<\/h3>\n<p>The framework gives POL significant academic weight: it accounts for 40% of the overall final programme score. This reflects the principle that professional competence cannot be established entirely through classroom examinations.<\/p>\n<p>KENCID\u2019s model asks a graduate to know it, design or make it, practice it and defend their professional judgement.
